Habit:  herb

Description:  "Plants slender, 0.5-6 dm tall.  Leaves pinnately decompound, the ultimate divisions filiform, oblong-ovate to orbicular in outline, 3.5-10 cm wide.  Rays 1-5, 0.4-2.5 cm long; petals white or greenish white.  Fruit orbicular to ovoid, 1.2-3 mm in diameter, mericarps readily separating."  (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 201)

"Annual herb, diffusely branching, 0.5-6 dm tall; leaves oblong-ovate, 3.5-10 cm long, 3.5-8 cm wide, pinnately or ternate-pinnately decompound, divisions linear to filiform, 1.5-7 mm long, 0.5-1 mm wide, petioles 2.5-11 cm long, sheath white scarious-margined; umbels compound or some simple, sessile or pedunculate, umbels 15-20-flowered, involucre and involucel lacking; rays to 2 cm long; fruit ovoid, 1.2-3 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad"  (Wiggins & Porter, 1971; pp. 764-765).

Habitat/ecology:  "Common in disturbed places, croplands and pastures" (Whistler, 1988; p. 38).

In Fiji, "occasional as a weed in gardens or along roadsides at elevations from near sea level to 850 m"  (Smith, 1985; pp. 658-659). In Hawai‘i, "naturalized in disturbed areas such as gardens, pastures, and roadsides" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 201).  On Niue, "a fairly common weed of waste places and roadsides but less common in old plantations.  It seems to be commonest in the villages"  (Sykes, 1970; p. 208).  In Tonga, "occasional...as a plantation and waste-area weed" (Yuncker, 1959; p. 208). In New Caledonia, "très commun comme plante rudérale" (MacKee, 1994; p. 136).

Propagation:  Seed

Native range:  A circumtropical weed (Wiggins & Porter, 1971; pp. 764-766). "Probably native to Brazil" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 201). Exact native range in Americas obscure; naturalized elsewhere (GRIN).
